What to Check Before Replacing an Air Filter

A successful filter replacement begins before the new filter arrives. Recording the existing installation helps avoid ordering the wrong depth, overlooking a seal or choosing a construction that cannot fit the available space. The following checks are useful for routine panel and bag filter enquiries.

Identify the existing filter

Photograph the label, the complete filter and its position in the unit. Record the product type and any model or grade shown. Keep the original standard designation with the grade; a letter or number without its standard may not explain the full requirement.

Where a label differs from a measured size, provide both. State which value came from the label and which was measured. Do not silently round measurements to a familiar catalogue size.

Check the complete installation envelope

Record width, height and depth, with units. For a bag filter, include the space behind the front frame and any obstruction that could interfere with the pockets. For a panel, note the retaining clips, rails or slot that locate it.

Our cardboard pleated panel filter and bag filter pages provide starting points for reviewing the relevant product configurations.

Look at the frame and seal

Inspect accessible housing surfaces and the arrangement used to hold the filter in position, following the equipment’s maintenance procedures. Note damaged clips, missing seals or visible gaps. Replacing the element alone does not resolve a damaged mounting arrangement.

Record where the seal sits and how the filter is secured. Do not infer the required gasket solely from the front view of a product photograph.

Confirm the operating information

Include the system airflow and any specified pressure-drop limits when available. Record the airflow direction indicated by the equipment and filter. Keep maintenance observations with the installation record so the next replacement can be compared with the same information.

Create a reusable filter record

Keep the equipment location, filter specification, quantity per unit and replacement date together. This makes repeat orders clearer, especially where several similar units use different depths or grades.

If identification is incomplete, send CINRIWA the label and installation photographs with your measurements. Agree the required configuration before ordering.
